Smart Charging - What if my consumption is less than usual?

Autarco Smart Charging predicts your energy needs based on typical usage patterns. If your consumption is significantly lower than usual—for example, if you are away for the weekend—the system will aim to adjust your battery schedule to maintain efficiency and protect your ROI.

When consumption is lower than predicted, the battery may retain more energy (a higher State of Charge) than the algorithm anticipated. Users might notice that the battery is not fully empty by the time the next charging cycle begins, or that the system scheduled a charge moment that, in hindsight, was not strictly necessary.

The Smart Charging algorithm is designed to be dynamic, but its response to lower consumption depends on the scale of the difference and the timing of the next cycle:

  • Dynamic Recalculation: The system checks actual consumption at set intervals. If it detects that you are using much less energy than forecasted, it may cancel or reduce a previously scheduled "Force Charge" to prevent buying unnecessary grid electricity.

  • The High SoC Scenario: In cases where the difference in consumption is minor, or if the cheap price window has already passed, the algorithm may choose not to intervene. In this "worst-case" scenario, the battery simply stays at a higher State of Charge (SoC).

  • Preparation for the Next Cycle: To maximize your benefits, the algorithm generally prefers to have the battery empty just before a new charge moment (from cheap sun or cheap grid power) starts. If your consumption was lower than usual, the battery might not be fully emptied, meaning you have less "room" to store the next block of cheap or free energy.

Note: While a higher SoC is never "bad" for your home’s power security, the goal of Smart Charging is to move as much energy as possible through the battery during the most profitable windows. A local EMS controller is more sensitive to these small fluctuations than the Cloud EMS and can fine-tune these moments with higher precision.
