Smart Charging - What if my consumption is more than usual?

Autarco Smart Charging uses your historical energy data to predict your "typical" consumption. If you use significantly more energy than usual—for example, by running heavy appliances or charging an EV unexpectedly—the system will attempt to adapt, though it may result in some grid import if the battery reaches its limit.

When consumption deviates significantly from the predicted profile, the battery may drain faster than the algorithm anticipated. This can lead to the battery running out of charge before the next scheduled charging cycle or before a high-price period has ended, resulting in unexpected electricity imports from the grid.

Description of the solution or explanation

The Smart Charging algorithm is designed to be self-correcting, but its effectiveness depends on the timing of the consumption spike:

  • Continuous Monitoring: The algorithm reviews your actual consumption against the forecast at set intervals throughout the day.

  • Recovery Planning: If a major difference is detected, the system calculates a "recovery plan." It may schedule an emergency charge during the next available window to ensure you have enough energy for the night.

  • The Timing Constraint: A recovery plan is only as good as the remaining price windows. If your unusual consumption occurs after the cheapest electricity hours of the day have passed, the algorithm may not be able to "fix" the shortfall without importing more expensive power.

  • Result: In cases of major differences, the optimization won't be 100% perfect, and you might see the battery hit its minimum State of Charge (SoC) earlier than planned.

  • Local EMS Controller: Provides real-time, high-frequency steering. It is much more capable of handling sudden consumption changes instantly, ensuring the best possible ROI even when your daily routine changes.
