Using Negative Price Response (NPR) with existing export limitations

Many Autarco systems already have a "backflow limit" (export limitation) configured to ensure the system does not exceed the capacity of the grid connection. You can safely enable the Negative Price Response (NPR) feature alongside these existing settings to further optimize your return on investment.

Problem description

Users often wonder if enabling NPR will overwrite or conflict with their permanent export limit, or if they have to choose between protecting their grid connection and avoiding negative electricity prices.

Description of the solution or explanation

It is perfectly possible to use NPR on a system that already has a backflow limit set. The two features work together hierarchically:

  • Compatibility: NPR works with any backflow setting that is greater than 0.

  • Memory of settings: When you enable NPR, the system "remembers" your existing export limit.

  • Dynamic adjustment: * When prices turn negative, NPR takes priority and limits the inverter to prevent costly export.

    • When prices return to positive, the system does not simply jump to the inverter's maximum capacity. Instead, it reverts precisely to the export limit you had set before NPR was triggered.

Note: If your backflow limit is currently set to 0 (zero export), NPR will not change this behavior, as the system is already restricted from exporting at all times.
