FAN_fault: Fan Alarm
This guide helps address a "FAN fault" error message on your Autarco inverter. This error indicates a potential problem with the inverter's cooling fan, which is crucial for maintaining safe operating temperatures.
Why it's problematic
A malfunctioning fan can lead to inverter overheating, potentially causing the inverter to shut down to protect itself from permanent damage.
Possible causes
- Dust and debris: The fan blades or the surrounding heatsink might be obstructed by accumulated dust and debris, hindering airflow.
- Fan malfunction: The fan motor or blades might be damaged or worn out, leading to reduced airflow.
- Elevated ambient temperature: Extremely high ambient temperatures can make it difficult for the fan to effectively cool the inverter.
- Direct sunlight: Exposure to direct sunlight can increase the inverter's temperature, making the fan's job more challenging.
Before you begin
Safety First: Working with electrical equipment always involves risks. Ensure you are qualified and follow appropriate safety precautions. Disconnect the inverter from both AC and DC sources before performing any physical inspection or adjustments.
Gather Information: Before starting troubleshooting, have the inverter manual on hand. You should also gather information about the inverter model and serial number, the installation date, and the PV array configuration (number of panels, capacity, and number of strings).
Troubleshooting steps
- Ensure proper ventilation around the inverter: Check that the area surrounding the inverter is clear of any obstructions or debris, especially near the fan vents, to allow for adequate airflow. If the ventilation is already sufficient and the issue persists, contact Autarco support to arrange for fan repair or replacement.
Verifying the solution
After completing these steps, power on the inverter. If the error message is gone, the fan operates correctly (you should hear and/or feel air movement), and the inverter functions normally, the problem is likely solved.
If the problem is not resolved
If the error persists, there might be a more complex issue with the fan, its controller, or other internal components.
- As a system owner: In this case, contact the inverter installer or distributor for further assistance. You can find the details of your installer in the MyAutarco app.
- As a certified installer: Contact Autarco Support, you can submit a support case via Helios.
