FAN_H Alarm: Fault of the external fan

This guide helps you address the "FAN_H Alarm" error message on your Autarco inverter. This error indicates a problem with the inverter's cooling fan, which is crucial for maintaining safe operating temperatures.

Why it's problematic

A malfunctioning fan can lead to inverter overheating, causing the inverter to shut down and potentially resulting in permanent damage.

Possible causes

  • Blocked fan: Dust, debris, or obstructions may be hindering the fan's airflow.
  • Fan malfunction: The fan motor or blades might be damaged, preventing it from spinning effectively.
  • Direct sunlight: Exposure to direct sunlight can increase the inverter's temperature, making the fan's job more challenging.

Before you begin

Safety First: Working with electrical equipment always involves risks. Ensure you are qualified and follow appropriate safety precautions. Disconnect the inverter from both AC and DC sources before performing any physical inspection or adjustments.

Gather Information: Before starting troubleshooting, have the inverter manual on hand. You should also gather information about the inverter model and serial number, the installation date, and the PV array configuration (number of panels, capacity, and number of strings).

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Check the inverter surrounding ventilation: Ensure the area around the inverter is clear and allows for proper airflow.
  2. Check if there’s sunshine direct on inverter in hot weather: If the inverter is exposed to direct sunlight, try to shade it or relocate it to a cooler, shaded area.
  3. Clean the fan: Carefully remove any dust or debris from the fan blades and the surrounding heat sink using a soft brush.

Verifying the solution

After completing these steps, power on the inverter. If the error message is gone and the fan operates correctly, the problem is likely solved.

If the problem is not resolved

If the error persists, there might be a more complex issue with the fan, its controller, or other internal components.
