GRID-INTF: Grid interference
This guide helps troubleshoot a "Grid Interference Protection" error on an Autarco inverter. This error is triggered when the inverter detects disturbances or fluctuations in the electrical grid that fall outside its acceptable operating parameters.
Why it's problematic
Interference from the grid can disrupt the inverter's ability to synchronize with the grid frequency and voltage, leading to safety concerns and potentially damaging the inverter or connected appliances.
Possible causes
- External electromagnetic interference: Nearby electrical equipment, power lines, or lightning strikes can induce electromagnetic interference that disrupts the grid's stability.
- Grid instability: Fluctuations in the grid voltage or frequency caused by issues within the utility provider's infrastructure can trigger this error.
- Poor grid quality: The quality of the electricity supply, such as harmonic distortion or voltage imbalances, can affect the inverter's operation and trigger the protection mechanism.
Before you begin
Safety First: Working with electrical equipment always involves risks. Ensure you are qualified and follow appropriate safety precautions. Disconnect the inverter from both AC and DC sources before performing any physical inspection or adjustments.
Gather Information: Before starting troubleshooting, have the inverter manual on hand. You should also gather information about the inverter model and serial number, the installation date, and the PV array configuration (number of panels, capacity, and number of strings).
Troubleshooting steps
- Wait for grid stabilization: Grid disturbances might be temporary. Monitor the situation for a while to see if the grid stabilizes and the error clears.
- Check for nearby electrical equipment: Identify and, if possible, temporarily disconnect any nearby electrical equipment that might be causing electromagnetic interference.
- Contact your utility provider: Inquire about any known grid issues or planned maintenance activities that might be affecting the grid quality.
Verifying the solution
If the grid interference subsides, the inverter should automatically reconnect to the grid, and the error message will disappear. The inverter display will indicate normal operation, usually by showing a "Generating" status.
If the problem is not resolved
If the error persists after these steps, it could indicate a persistent grid quality problem or a potential issue with the inverter's internal components.
- As a system owner: In this case, contact the inverter installer or distributor for further assistance. You can find the details of your installer in the MyAutarco app.
- As a certified installer: Contact Autarco Support, you can submit a support case via Helios.
