OV-G-F: Grid over frequency
This guide helps troubleshoot a "Grid Over Frequency" error on an Autarco inverter. This error indicates that the frequency of the electricity grid exceeds the acceptable range for the inverter to operate safely.
Why it's problematic
This error triggers a safety mechanism within the inverter, causing it to disconnect from the grid. This protects the inverter and the grid from potential damage.
Possible causes
- Grid instability: The grid frequency might fluctuate outside the inverter's acceptable operating range due to issues with the utility provider or external factors.
- Inverter settings: The inverter might be configured with incorrect frequency limits.
Before you begin
Safety First: Working with electrical equipment always involves risks. Ensure you are qualified and follow appropriate safety precautions. Disconnect the inverter from both AC and DC sources before performing any physical inspection or adjustments.
Gather Information: Before starting troubleshooting, have the inverter manual on hand. You should also gather information about the inverter model and serial number, the installation date, and the PV array configuration (number of panels, capacity, and number of strings).
Troubleshooting steps
- Wait for the grid frequency to stabilize: Grid frequency fluctuations can be temporary. Monitor the grid frequency and wait for it to return within the acceptable limits.
- Check grid voltage: Verify if the grid voltage is also outside of acceptable limits.
- Check with your utility provider: Contact your utility provider to inquire about any known grid issues or planned maintenance that might be affecting the grid frequency.
- Verify inverter settings (Certified Installers Only): If permitted by the utility company and local regulations, adjust the inverter's frequency protection limits to align with the grid's specifications.
Verifying the solution
Once the grid frequency stabilizes or the inverter settings are adjusted, the inverter should reconnect to the grid automatically. The inverter display will show "Generating" status, indicating normal operation.
If the problem is not resolved
If the error persists after following all the above steps, there might be an internal fault within the inverter.
- As a system owner: In this case, contact the inverter installer or distributor for further assistance. You can find the details of your installer in the MyAutarco app.
- As a certified installer: Contact Autarco Support, you can submit a support case via Helios.
