Inverter not starting up

This guide addresses the issue of an Autarco inverter not starting up. The inverter is a critical component in a solar energy system, converting DC power from the solar panels into AC power that can be used in a home or business or fed back into the electric grid. When the inverter fails to start, the system cannot generate power, resulting in lost energy production and potential financial losses.

Possible causes for a No Start-up condition can include:
  • Lack of AC or DC power supply
  • Faulty wiring or connections
  • Incorrect switch positions
  • Internal component failure

Before You Begin

Safety First: Working with electrical equipment always involves risks. Ensure you are qualified and follow appropriate safety precautions. Disconnect the inverter from both AC and DC sources before performing any physical inspection or adjustments.

Gather Information: Before starting troubleshooting, have the inverter manual on hand. You should also gather information about the inverter model and serial number, the installation date, and the PV array configuration (number of panels, capacity, and number of strings).

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check the AC and DC power supply: Ensure the AC circuit breaker supplying the inverter is on and the grid power is available. Verify that the DC disconnect switch is in the ON position and the PV array is generating power.

  2. Check the inverter's display screen: If the screen is blank, make sure all switches, including the internal DC switch if present, are in the ON position.

  3. Check for any error messages on the LCD screen: Refer to the inverter manual's troubleshooting section for specific error codes and their corresponding solutions.
  4. Verify the DC string polarity: If one of the DC strings is connected in reverse, wait until nighttime when solar irradiance is low and string current is below 0.5A. Then, turn off both DC switches and correct the polarity issue.

  5. Check the AC and DC connections: Ensure all cables and connectors are properly secured and there are no loose connections or damaged cables.

  6. Restart the inverter: Turn off both the AC and DC disconnect switches, wait for 5 minutes, and then turn them back on.

Verifying the Solution

  • The inverter's LCD screen should display "GENERATING" or a similar message, indicating it is producing power.
  • You should be able to monitor the inverter's performance through the MyAutarco app, if available.

If the Problem is Not Resolved

If the error persists after following all the above steps, there might be an internal fault within the inverter.

As a system owner: In this case, contact the inverter installer or distributor for further assistance. You can find the details of your installer in the MyAutarco app.

As a certified installer: Contact Autarco Support, you can submit a support case via Helios
