Why is my system still producing while prices are negative?

When you have a dynamic energy contract, it is possible that your energy price goes negative. This means that there is too much supply on the grid and not enough demand.  Energy prices will than go negative to promote additional consumption to balance the grid.  If you exporting during these times it will cost you money as you export against a negative price.

With an EMS it is possible to steer your inverter to make sure that during those negative price moments your system is limiting production.

There are situations where your PV system is still producing to cover your own consumption while prices are negative.

The reason for this is that the price you pay for importing energy is not the same price you get for exporting energy to the grid. This means that there is a gap between when buying prices are negative and when exporting prices are negative.  Exporting prices are often faster negative compared to importing prices. So NPR and other curtailment solutions often limit production to self-consumption
