Why is my PV system is not working during winter?

Winter months provide less sunlight for PV modules to generate electricity.

All inverters have an important feature called min MPPT voltage. This value defines the minimum voltage required for the inverter to start generating electricity from PV modules.

In winter, low irradiance (less sunlight) causes PV module voltage to drop. For PV systems with low string voltage (limited roof space), this can prevent the inverter from turning on. Specifically:

  • PV voltage may remain below the startup voltage or min MPPT voltage.

  • The inverter stays powered by grid power (and battery power for hybrid inverters).

  • No electricity is generated from PV modules during this period.

Note: For on-grid inverters, enable 24h mode to prevent the inverter from fully turning off whenever PV string voltage drops below the min MPPT voltage.
